RSA 505 Teams have a blast at Poland Worlds 2018

Two RSA 505 teams competed at the 2018 World Championship in Gydnia, Poland. Euan Hurter and Warwick Ham teamed up to sail Warwick's GER based boat and Graeme Willcox sailed with James Spikesly. Our teams flew the SA flag high and finished in a very commendable 40th and 24th place, respectively. The conditions were tough with big chop and light winds making sailing difficult. Graeme and James had a best placed position of 11th in race 8 and started race 9 as the pathfinder, which Euan and Warwick had a great race in race 9 finishing in a commendable 21st position. SA 505 Class would like to congratulate the teams on a great performance. Some final comments from the SAP Worlds were as follows:

The SAP505WorldChampionship2018 is over. But the excitement possibly not yet. And then, there's Australia to look forward to. Last Friday, during the Closing Ceremony Lutz Stengel and Holger Jess have officially become the 505 Class World Champions 2018.

The last two days of racing were certainly good ones. Good in the sense of a vast range of possibilities. Some were more than happy with 10 knots, others enjoyed the challenge of some choppy waves. There were moments of glory sliding and some new holes in the boats, broken helms or even a mast. But it was all worth it. The last five races - three on Thursday and two on Friday, still with beautiful sun and medium-strength wind ended up with a Birthday party of Michał Olko, one of the organizers, on Thursday and the grand Closing Ceremony on Friday when we officially called it a day. Lutz Stengel and Holger Jess - the 505 Class World Champions 2018 have received the beautiful blue globe - the symbol of the best of the best.

With cheers, laughter and some good music we bade goodbye to the 505 sailors and welcomed Australia as the host of the 505Worlds2019, coming soon indeed!

So, get ready for Jan, 2019!

The event was the final organised event of the season and now all focus will shift to the 505 worlds in Poland and thereafter the nationals in September. December 2018 will also see the pre-worlds being sailed in Perth with the 2019 worlds taking place in January. Lots of sailing to happen post July.
